Organized by the Asian Association of Dry Eye China Branch, the First Chinese Dry Eye Congress was undertaken by Eye Institute of Xiamen University, Xiamen Eye Center of Xiamen University, Department of Ophthalmology of Beijing Tongren Hospital and Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology and was ceremoniously held in Xiamen during November 28-29. Themed by "focus on dry eye, standard diagnosis and treatment", the Congress form included continuing education, special lectures, intractable case discussion, focus debate and dry eye industry development forum, etc.. More than six hundred experts, scholars and doctors from all over the country attended the Congress.

On 28th, the First Chinese Dry Eye Congress officially kicked off. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Sun Xuguang, the co-chairman of the Congress. Professor Liu Zuguo, the vice chairman of Asian Association of Dry Eye, the co-chairman of the first Chinese Dry Eye Congress, and Professor Kim Hyo-Myung from medical school of Korea University successively made a speech for the opening ceremony. Then Professor Sun Xuguang read the address from Academician Xie Lixin who was honorary chairman of the congress. More than 30 famous dry eye experts at home and abroad presented great academic lectures, including Professor Liu Zuguo from Xiamen University, Professor Sun Xuguang from Beijing Tongren Hospital, and Professor Yu Fuxin from Kresge Eye Center of Wayne State University, Professor Lv Fan who is principal of Wenzhou Medical University, Professor Li Ying from Union Hospital of Union Medical University, Professor Zhang Mingchang from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Professor Hong Jing from Peking University Third Hospital, Professor Deng Yingping from West China Hospital, Professor Yan Xiaoming from Peking University First Hospital, Professor Xu Jianjiang from Fudan University, Professor Wang Zhichong from Zhongshan Ophthalmological Center, etc.. The lectures were brilliant and varied, covering various aspects such as the latest progress, difficulties in clinical diagnosis and treatment and hot issues of the dry eye basic and clinical study. The Congress was also transmitted via live telecast on Ganyan Net/Yixin ophthalmology, where the number of the online attendees reached more than 2000, so that the entire Congress reached nearly 3000 persons online and offline, to greatly improve the effect of the Congress.

During the congress, the first founding conference for Academic Committee of the Asian Association of Dry Eye China Branch was also held. China Dry Eye Committee members together carried on a thorough discussion on establishment and development of committee and how to better promote China's dry eye diagnosis and treatment and academic exchanges. The tenet of Chinese Dry Eye Academic Committee has been determined at the founding conference, that is: "adhering to the fine tradition of Asian Association of Dry Eye, to gather Chinese excellent dry eye experts, and to promote Chinese dry eye related education, research, and clinical diagnosis and treatment with joint efforts." The establishment of Academic Committee of Dry Eye has set up a high-end platform for dry eye academic exchange in Chinese ophthalmology, has gathered authoritative experts in the domestic field of dry eye for benefiting by their wisdom and full play of strength, that will actively push academic exchanges, talent training and scientific research cooperation and so on for China Dry Eye in the future.

During November 18-19, 2016, Eye Institute of Xiamen University will organize Asian Dry Eye Academic Conference, and the 2nd Chinese Dry Eye Congress will also be held in Xiamen at the same time.
