On November 28, 2015, the founding conference of Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology (Specialized Committee) of Cross-Strait Medical and Health Exchange Association (SMEA) was ceremoniously held in Xiamen.SMEApresident Zhao Tongbin, executive vice president Fang Jun, Academician Han Jiahuai who is vice-principal of Xiamen University, and nearly 70 famous ophthalmology scholars from all over the country, attended the conference.
Founded in 1993, SMEAwas registered by the state ministry of civil affairs. It is a national social organization in the charge of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China. Similar to Chinese Medical Association and Chinese Medical Doctor Association,SMEAalso is a national first-class association in the charge of the National Health and Family Planning Commission. Aiming to unite medicine health workers across the Taiwan straits as well as the social personages of all circles and groups loving medicine health exchanges across the Taiwan straits,SMEA will strengthen exchanges and cooperation of medicine health service across the Taiwan straits, to enhance people's health and well-being on both sides, and to promote healthy and rapid development of medicine health service across the Taiwan straits.
In order to further promote the cooperation and exchanges among ophthalmologists across the Taiwan straits, to push forward the coordinated development of ophthalmological service across the Taiwan straits, Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology ofSMEAwas established in Xiamen after nearly a year of preparation. The Committee sets 90 members including 25 members of the standing committee, covering all provinces and municipalities directly under the central government, and including 4 honorary members from Taiwan. Nearly 70 members attended the conference and elected Professor Liu Zuguo as the first chairman of committee through democratic election, and Professor Liu Yizhi, Professor Lv Fan, Professor Sun Xinghuai, Professor Xu Xun, Professor Fan Xianqun, Professor Chen Youxin, Professor Wei Shihui as deputy chairman of committee.
President Zhao Tongbin congratulated on the establishment of Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology of Strait Medical Association, and hoped the Committee could gather the Chinese ophthalmological elites from four regions across the straits, to jointly promote the continuous development of ophthalmological service, to further promote the friendship among the cross-strait ophthalmologists, to carry out rewarding work in order to realize cross-strait members being the members of one family and to make a China's dream come true.
Professor Liu Zuguo, newly elected chairman of specialized committee of ophthalmology, expressed his thank to Strait Medical Association. He stressed that the Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology would carry out distinctive academic activities of ophthalmology under the tenet of Strait Medical Association, set up distinctive group according to the requirements of Association, contribute their efforts in order to promote the development of ophthalmological service in China and the cross-strait exchanges.
Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology ofSMEAset up a high-end platform for the ophthalmological academic exchange between cross-strait fields of ophthalmology, has gathered authoritative experts in national field of ophthalmology for drawing upon all useful opinions, wisdom contribution, open mind, full play of strength, that will actively push subject construction, talent cultivation, academic exchanges, medical cooperation and so on for the cross-strait ophthalmological profession in the future. The establishment of Specialized Committee of Ophthalmology of Strait Medical Association has not only opened a new chapter of academic exchanges, information communication and emotional communication among ophthalmology professional across the Taiwan straits, but also formed a long-term mechanism of benign communication, to gather cross-strait ophthalmological elites to help each other forward to human visual health service.
